The Town of Lake Cowichan is moving to create an option for people who want to stay in the community after death.
There isn’t a full service cemetery in Lake Cowichan, and Mayor Ross Forrest says it’s not going to be practical to create one – but they can build a columbarium to offer a place for families to store cremated remains.
Forrest says there are several pieces that still have to come together including finding the right land and working out what to charge.
Forrest says he’s optimistic they can find the land and have a facility open some time in 2016.
