47,000 union members plan strike vote

Bargaining with health care workers has hit a wall and the largest union at the table will now be asking its members if they want to strike.

Hospital Employees Union spokesperson Bonnie Pearson says talks are at an impasse with the Union wanting a moratorium on contracting out.

Pearson says the potential labour strife in the health care sector won’t affect just her members but also other groups like ambulance paramedics.

She says the Union will hold a strike vote by the end of April.

Their contract expires Monday.
