Island Health wants to reduce wait times for endoscopy, others

Island Health wants to team up private sector surgical providers to reduce wait times for procedures that only take a day.

Norm Peters is the Executive Director for Surgical Services. He says that could include orthopedic surgeries, endoscopies, and general surgeries like hernia repairs.

Peters says they’re looking for several private sector partners to do between 3 and 4 thousand surgeries over a five year term, and up to 4 thousand endoscopies.

He says that would significantly reduce wait times and increase the number of surgeries Island Health can do in year.
