Conservation group raises concerns over proposed DFO fishing limits for 2015

The Watershed Watch Salmon Society is worried about the Department of Fisheries and Oceans draft fishing plan for 2015.

Executive Director Aaron Hill says DFO boosted the limits last year, leading to what he calls “aggressive fishing”.

Hill says salmon were over-harvested by a million and a half fish, and salmon stocks can’t support that kind of overfishing again this year.


Hill says salmon are under pressure because of warming ocean temperatures in the north pacific, and record low snow packs this year will cause even more challenges.

Today is the deadline for public comments on DFO’s draft fishing plan.
