The Islands Trust isn’t taking sides when it comes to incorporating Salt Spring Island, and it says it welcomes the decision to study options on whether the Island should become a municipality, or follow some other model.
Right now, it’s part of the Capital Regional District, and the Islands Trust.
Peter Grove is one of the Trustees for Salt Spring.
Grove says Salt Spring will remain within the Islands Trust whether it’s a municipality or not, although the power to make land use decisions would be handed over to the new municipal council.
The province is putting 120-thousand dollars into the incorporation study, which will include public consultations.
The Islands Trust has already done some studies on the issue. You can see them here.
