RCMP: Kids, teachers safe at Cowichan Valley schools

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP want people to know that schools are safe places for kids and teachers.

Cpl. Krista Hobday says Wednesday’s incident at Drinkwater Elementary shouldn’t stop parents from sending their kids to school.

SD79 superintendent Joe Rhodes says there are services in place to help staff.

Police are investigating a call that reported a shooter in the building. It appears to be a hoax as no shooter was found on Wednesday after a lockdown and search.

There were no students in the building after an early dismissal.

Police say they don’t know if there is any connection between the incident and two recent bomb hoaxes in Duncan.
