RCMP say social media helped with recent arrest

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say social media helped them arrest a man suspected of crimes in Mill Bay, Ladysmith and Victoria.

41 year old Ernest Stolarchuk of Ladysmith was charged after RCMP pulled over his truck following an investigation involving local RCMP and the Vancouver Island General Investigation Section.

Corporal Krista Hobday says RCMP put together 8 complaints filed with police with what they were seeing on social media.

RCMP say they seized items stolen from a Victoria business.

Stolarchuck is also charged with a break and enter in Mill Bay, and possession of stolen property tied to a case in Ladysmith.

He’ll be in court April 21st.

Meanwhile, a man RCMP describe as a known prolific offender is facing 11 new charges.

31 year old Colin Daniel Clark has been in custody since his arrest on Monday.

Hobday says the arrest was made by Shawnigan RCMP, acting on a tip that Clark – a former long-time resident of Duncan – was in that area.

RCMP say the charges against Clark stem from 3 different investigations.

They include assault, possession of stolen property, and possession of stolen identification. RCMP say that charge goes back to 2014 and invovled 7 separate victims.
