The Tourism Cowichan Society is hoping to bring a room tax to the region to help pay for tourism marketing…they’re also hoping for some changes to how the marketing efforts are managed.
Janet Docherty is the Chair of the Society. She says the industry wants to take the lead; although it would still be a partnership with the economic development commission.
Docherty also says having an accommodation tax would open up other sources of money.
The group is hoping to have approval from the province in time to start the 2 per-cent levy in 2016
