Crowder’s bill on derelict vessels to face vote soon

A vote is set for next Wednesday after another round of debate on Nanaimo Cowichan MP Jean Crowder’s bill on derelict vessels.

Crowder is proposing that the Coast Guard be appointed receiver of wrecks.  She says that would clear up a lot of confusion over who takes the lead in dealing with the problem.

The bill is getting support from other opposition MPs, but so far no Conservatives.

Without at least some government MPs on side it’s possible the bill could die before the federal election.
