SD68 Chair: Chronic underfunding is cause of looming cuts

The Chair of the Nanaimo Ladysmith School Board says they’re doing what they can to reduce the impact of looming cuts on CUPE members.

CUPE Local 606 raised concerns about a plan to cut 23 janitors and 11 field facilities workers over 2 years.

Board Chair Steve Rae says chronic underfunding is forcing their hand.

Rae says the proposed plan at this point is to cut 3.7 per cent of SD68 CUPE workers over 2 years.

SD68’s budget still hasn’t been finalized.
