Local governments in BC need to have their budgets finalized this week.
They’ve finished up already in North Cowichan, and taxes are going up for homeowners and businesses.
Tax rates will see a 2.9 per cent jump for homeowners and a 3.7 per cent increase for businesses.
Mayor Jon Lefebure wanted to see the same increase for all properties.
Councillor Al Siebring, on the other hand, voted in favour of a residential tax break.
North Cowichan’s budget includes several big projects like the construction of a new police station and dikes for flood control.
