Old commercial fishing boat reportedly sinks in Maple Bay

An old commercial fishing boat has reportedly sunk in Maple Bay.

Maple Bay Marina officials say they heard about a 50-foot vessel going down on Saturday afternoon and it’s not known at this point in time if anybody was on it.

Officials weren’t able to identify the owner of the boat and it appears that it was a derelict vessel.

The Ganges Coast Guard did respond to the situation but have yet to comment about the sinking.

Earlier this week…Nanaimo Cowichan MP Jean Crowder had her bill on derelict vessels, that would make the Coast Guard the so-called “receiver of wrecks”, defeated in Ottawa.
