Seniors Advocate says local governments can help with housing question

BC’s Seniors Advocate says local governments have a role to play in helping boost the stock of housing for seniors.

Isobel Mackenzie’s latest report makes 18 recommendations – all aimed at the provincial government, and all geared toward ensuring seniors housing is “appropriate, affordable and available”

She says local governments have a tool they can use to help with the availability part – zoning:

Mackenzie also says transit can be a big challenge in rural areas. Because if seniors can’t find housing on a transit route, it will add to the cost of living, leaving less for things like rent.
