BCCDC warns of monkeypox scam calls

The BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) says fraud calls are appearing to be targeting healthcare test results.

The BCCDC and other health authorities are warning the public about reports of automated scam calls about monkeypox test results or exposures.

They say they follow up with an individual after a positive test or potential exposure to a communicable disease like monkeypox for contact tracing.

They add they do not use automated messages to notify individuals of infections or possible exposures. You will never be asked to provide financial information during case and contact tracing, according to the BCCDC.

Being alert of cybercriminals sending fake phishing emails, texts and robocalls to steal your personal and financial details are also encouraged.
