A group pledged to stopping bridges on the Gulf Islands says it’s expecting a feasibility study on a link between Gabriola and the main Island in late August.
Transportation Minister Todd Stone has pointed to that study, and the new cable ferry for Denman Island, when pressed on issues around fare increases and service cuts at BC Ferries.
But Steve O’Neill of Bridge Free Salish Sea, says he thinks they’ve made a strong case that a bridge is a non starter.
O’Neill says the Ministry is also ready to promise full public consultations on the social and economic impact and whether people actually want a bridge after the report is released.
The group also recently earned the backing of the Salt Spring – based Gulf Islands Alliance, which unanimously endorsed the Islands Trust and Bridge-Free Salish Sea position opposing fixed links to and between islands in the Islands Trust Area.
