Slots on Spirit Class ferries nixed. No surprise says NDP critic

Transportation Minister Todd Stone says plans to try gambling on BC Ferries have been scrapped.

The pilot project on the Tsawwassen – Swartz Bay route was touted as a way to bring in extra revenue.

But the business case, and a review by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, it would actually lead to a loss.

Nicholas Simons is the NDP’s critic for coastal economic development.

He says the fact the idea got this far, shows the government is dodging the real problems with BC Ferries.

Stone, though, says British Columbians want the government to look into “new and innovative” ways to keep fares down, and they remain open to other ideas for generating revenue.
