Division of Family Practice launches GP Referral Line

Cowichan Valley residents who need a family doctor can now find one with just a single phone call.

The Division of Family Practice has set up a Cowichan GP Referral Line.

Valerie Nicol is the Division’s Executive Director.

She says the idea is simple: people without a doctor call the number, answer a few basic questions, and get a list of clinics with room for new patients.

Nicol says the Referral Line is part of the ongoing “A GP for Me” program, which has also focused on the other side of the equation.

The Cowichan Valley was one of the first regions in BC to launch “A GP for Me” back in 2011, and since then they’ve connected around 42-hundred people with a family doctor.
