RCMP vehicle involved in crash that shut down Malahat Wed. night

RCMP South Island Traffic Services says an RCMP vehicle was one of the two involved in an accident that shut down a section of the Malahat, overnight.

It happened around 10 last night, 5 1/2 kilometers north of Shawnigan Lake Road. The highway wasn’t fully re-opened until just after 2 this morning.

RCMP say an officer with the Shawnigan Lake detachment was involved, but wasn’t badly hurt.

Sgt. Annie Linteau says he was responding to reports of a man walking along the road jumping in and out of traffic.

Two people in the other car were taken to hospital in Victoria with minor injuries.  They’ve since been released.

Linteau says RCMP also located, and spoke to the man walking on the road.  She says that file is closed.
