Islands Trust urging province to spend money to save money for travellers

The Islands Trust is calling for the province to spend money to make it possible to cut fares on the BC Ferries minor routes by 25 per cent.

Chair Peter Luckham says the payoff for the 11 to 14 million dollar investment would come through the boost to the local economy and the tax revenue that would result.

Ferries CEO Mike Corrigan is going to be at the Trust Council’s meeting next week.

Luckham says Corrigan knows about the fare cut idea, but that’s an issue for the province.

He says the Trust wants to hear from Corrigan about operational issues like schedules, and plans for new ferries.
