North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP have confirmed that a pair of weekend fires were likely deliberately set.
The fires both happened in vacant buildings.
The first broke out at 6:30 Saturday evening, on Festubert Street.
The other happened around 9:45 Sunday night, on Second Street.
RCMP say two fires, under similar circumstances, just a day apart is suspicious on its own, but the fact the hydro had been shut off to both buildings leaves investigators with little doubt they were intentional.
However, they’re still working to pin-point the exact cause.
RCMP are asking anyone who lives near a vacant, or abandoned property, to keep an eye out for suspicious activity and report it to police, or Crime Stoppers.
They’re also hoping anybody with information on the weekend fires will contact the detachment at 250-748-5522, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
