RCMP release details of “shots fired” incident

North Cowichan /Duncan RCMP are releasing details about a “shots fired” incident earlier this month.

It happened June 2nd at a home on Lake Cowichan Road.

RCMP say the suspects were gone by the time officers got to the scene… But, thanks to witnesses, they found out they were in an SUV driving around the Duncan area.

It was spotted by police on Somenos Road near Highway 18…

Two Duncan men, aged 22 and 23, were arrested and a gun was seized from the truck.

RCMP say the investigation is ongoing, and police are pursuing charges of assault with a weapon.

The incident also has RCMP reminding the public about just how seriously they have to treat any call involving a gun – replica, or real.

“Officers will always take precautions when dealing with suspected armed individuals. A call for service involving a firearm will always take priority and generate a heightened response from Officers. Every gun call is treated as real; every gun, whether it’s reported to be a toy, a replica, or real, will be treated as a real and an imminent threat to Police and Public safety and dealt with accordingly. Our number one priority is Public Safety,” says Cpl. Krista Hobday.
