Most BC Ferries routes are shifting to summer schedules, and Ferries is predicting it’s going to be a busy couple of weeks.
Extra sailings are being added on the three main routes serving the Island out of Swartz Bay, Duke Point and Nanaimo.
The company’s Deborah Marshall says they’ll also have a second ship on the Southern Gulf Islands run during the heavy traffic days Thursdays through Sundays.
Although times and frequencies will change for the major routes most of the smaller routes like Crofton Vesuvius, and Chemainus – Thetis – Penalakut, won’t see a schedule change.
Ferries also says it expects sailings to be very busy starting Thursday and Friday and going right through into early July.
Marshall says with Canada Day on Wednesday this year, the holiday isn’t the main reason for the predicted heavy volumes; there are a couple of other things at play like school ending and the extended stretch of good weather.
