Island now in a Level 4 drought

The province has now put Vancouver Island under a Level 4 drought advisory.

They’re also suspending fishing in streams and rivers throughout southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands because of the low stream flows and warming water temperatures.

The closure has been put in place to protect fish stocks at a time when they are vulnerable.

The area covered runs from Bamfield south to Victoria on the west coast, and Campbell River south to Victoria on the east coast of the Island.

The main river systems involved include the Chemainus, Cowichan, Englishman, Little Qualicum, and Nanaimo
