Province in discussions with Martin Mars owner

It sounds like the Martin Mars water bomber could soon be back on the job.

Steve Thomson, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations says the province is talking with Coulson Aviation.

Thomson says it’s old, and it’s not the most cost-effective way to fight fires, but with so many fires burning across the province they need to look at their options.

CEO Wayne Coulson says he thinks Thomson is misinformed.

Coulson says the province could order the Mars up under an existing contract with Coulson Aviation. He says they’re putting the Mars back in the water on Tuesday morning and it can be ready to start fighting fires as early as Thursday.
