Wildfire update for Sunday

The BC Wildfire Service says there’s been little change in two major fires in our area.

Crews are on 24 hour patrol and mop up duty at the Dog Mountain fire (pictured above) near Sproat Lake, which burned through 450 hectares before it was completely contained.

1 cabin in the area was destroyed, and 18 others remain under evacuation order.

The team from the Coastal Fire Centre is using structural protection units (a type of sprinkler system) on those cabins.

The Old Sechelt Mine fire remains and 400 hectares and is still 75 per cent contained.

And in Port Hardy, RCMP are now involved in the investigation of a fire that forced an evacuation of several homes last week. The Tsulquate River fire is 95 per cent contained, and the evacuation orders and alerts have all been lifted.
