17 year old drowns in Shawnigan Lake

RCMP say there was a tragic end to a call Sunday about a teenĀ  missing at Shawnigan Lake.

Police say the call came in just before 5pm, and they were joined by ambulance crews and fire/rescue units at the lake.

About 5 minutes after they got there, the first responders were able to find the boy in about 4 metres of water, and get him to a nearby dock.Ā  The efforts to revive him failed.

The BC Coroners Service has identified the teen asĀ 17-year-old Abdu-Jamal Ottun from London, England.

The investigation is continuing.
