One Cowichan hoping for Catalyst to “step up” on weir project

One Cowichan says the current drought is highlighting the importance of getting on with plans to raise the weir on Cowichan Lake, and they say it’s time for Catalyst Paper to step forward as a key player.

One Cowichan’s Parker Jefferson says now that earlier legal challenges are out of the way, the CVRD and Cowichan Tribes are ready to get going.

He says as the water license holder, Catalyst’s participation is vital. And, as the region’s major employer, they’ve got clout to help sway federal and provincial governments.

Catalyst could also help pay for the project.

Local governments already have an application in for money from the federal gas tax fund.

You can read Jefferson’s blog post on the situation here.
