Comox crew heading home from Dog Mountain fire

A group of firefighters from Comox is on its way home after helping battle the 450 hectare Dog Mountain fire near Sproat Lake.

Chief Gord Schreiner says the Comox firefighters were part of a “Structural Protection Unit” working to keep the fire from wiping out the 18 cabins that were evacuated.

Schreiner says they set up special sprinkler systems to keep buildings, and their surroundings, wet so embers from the fire wouldn’t catch.

The Dog Mountain Fire is now 100 per cent contained, but those cabins are still under evacuation order and crews are doing 24 hour patrols as mop up continues.
