Local prolific offender back in custody, faces new charges

Police say a local prolific offender is back in custody and is facing five new charges.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP corporal Krista Hobday says 33-year-old Joseph Alexander Smith was scheduled to appear in front of a judge today via a video conference.

Hobday says Smith was released from jail last month on several conditions that deal with weapons, alcohol and controlled substances.

In addition, she says he had to stay at the Surrey Housing Society, however, left after 22 days without permission and returned to the Cowichan Valley…which led to his arrest.
