Local parents push for program especially for developmentally challenged young adults

A Cowichan Valley mom says her family is left hanging, because there’s no help available for her Downs Syndrome son now that he’s an adult.

Sandra Anderson is working with other parents to get a program off the ground aimed at people with developmental disabilities from 19 to 30.

She says while he was school age, her son Kody got support at school, as well as access to after school programs and speech therapy… but now that’s all changing.

Anderson says the programs that are available in the Valley, are  either full or not suitable.

Anderson says they’ve had a lot of support from MLA Bill Routley, and she’s encouraging people to write Routley to back up his efforts to help get provincial funding for a local program.
