Skutz Falls fire still active, estimated at 16 hectares

The wildfire at Skutz Falls is now estimated at 16 hectares, and around 20 per cent contained.

The human-caused fire broke out late Tuesday afternoon in logging slash on private managed forest land, and so far the fire remains remains confined to that property.

Fire Information Officer Donna MacPherson says there’s been no change in the situation as far as public safety is concerned.

Ground crews, including teams from the forestry company, and helicopters continue working at the site. The return of the Martin Mars, or the other big aircraft that hit the fire on day 1, is still possible if the firefighters on the ground think the situation calls for it.

MacPherson also says the Fire Centre is reminding people driving by the area not to stop to watch or take pictures, because it might interfere with the firefighting effort.
