UPDATE: Shawnigan Lake RCMP confirmed that the white Volvo involved in the collision made a left turn from Butterfield Rd and was struck by a black truck travelling southbound on the Trans Canada Highway. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries. RCMP does not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in the incident.
Yesterday Shawnigan Lake RCMP shut down Highway 1 at the northern end of the Malahat due to a vehicle collision.
In a letter to parents today staff at Frances Kelsey Secondary School confirmed that a senior student was a victim of the crash.
They add that support services are available to students and staff.
