Lizard Lake wildfire sending smoke, ash into Lake Cowichan area

The Lake Cowichan area is getting hit with smoke and ash coming from a rapidly spreading 150-hectare wildfire near Lizard Lake.

The Coastal Fire Centre says the blaze is 27 kilometres southwest of Lake Cowichan and 11.5 kilometres northeast of Port Renfrew.

Fire Information Officer Donna MacPherson says there are a lot of personnel in action including 30 firefighters, along with five helicopters and water bombers using flame reducing materials.

MacPherson says the cause of fire is under investigation, however, it’s believed to be person caused.
