Wildfire 27km southwest of Lake Cowichan now 150 hectares

The Coastal Fire Centre says a wildfire near Lizard Lake is now an estimated 150 hectares, and there’s heavy smoke in the area.

It’s burning 27 kilometres southwest of Lake Cowichan.

Fire Information Officer Donna MacPherson says they have 39 firefighters, 4 officers, 7 helicopters, 2 water tenders and 2 pieces of heavy equipment working on it.

MacPherson says the Lizard Lake recreation site is closed. For now, the Fairy Lake recreational site is open. You can check out www.sitesandtrailsbc.ca for updates.

The fire is believed to be human caused.
