BC Green Party

Cammy Lockwood operates a farm that supplies eggs and organically grown vegetables. Her bio says she is a strong voice for her community, serving on several boards for community organizations. Cammy and her husband James were awarded BC’s Outstanding Young Farmers. Her expertise in the Canadian egg industry has been recognized and she has been a witness in several parliamentary committees. Disappointed in the government’s response to climate catastrophes, she is determined to put people, not corporations, at the center of BC politics.

Debra Toporowski (Qwulti’stunaat) is a member of Cowichan Tribes, where she is a five time councillor, and is a two term councillor in the municipality of North Cowichan, the first elected woman to hold both positions on two councils at the same time. Her bio says she is a champion for Indigenous watersheds and the services people count on in the Cowichan Valley and knows people in the riding face the big challenges people across BC are facing: housing, healthcare, and affordability.

John Koury is a business consultant and former two term member of council at the Municipality of North Cowichan. His bio says he holds a Master’s Degree in Business from Royal Roads University and earned the accreditation of Chartered Director professional in corporate governance from The Directors College at McMaster University, DeGroote School of Business, sponsored by The Conference Board of Canada. His experience as a business consultant has equipped him with insights and expertise needed for positive change in the Cowichan Valley.

Independent Candidate Eden Haythornthwaite

Eden Haythornthwaite is an independent socialist and says public democratic management of all resource use will bestow the means to fight climate catastrophe, protect our environment and create thousands of beneficial jobs. She is an advocate for housing for people not for profit, lifelong public education for all, fully funded free accessible health care services and quality public elder care, expanded and renewed infrastructure through public works for schools, hospitals, mental health facilities and addiction clinics, and improvements in transportation for British Columbia.

In a social media post following the withdrawal of BC United Jon Coleman indicated he was considering his options to run as an independent. Elections BC says nominations can be filed with district electoral officers until 1 pm on September 28, 2024.
