Cowichan Valley Tour de Rock riders greeted with hometown welcome

Tour de Rock rider Nicholas Arnold says he was “verklempt” with emotion as he and constable Warren Kongus, another rider from the Cowichan Valley, rolled through Duncan yesterday.

Riders stopped at Save-On-Foods for lunch where he met up with the team from Sun FM, and he says it was great to be home at least for a little bit.

“Seeing the team that has supported me for the last six months of training and all that kind of stuff to be able to share with them the fruits of my labours and our labours was really special.”

Another standout spot for Arnold and the other riders was Queen Margaret’s School where “the entire student population was lined up on both sides of the pathway in a cheer tunnel around their quad.”

The team ended their day at Shawnigan Lake School where they were met with a plethora of volunteers ready to shave their heads.

The tour resumed today in the Cobble Hill area at the country grocer picking up where they left off yesterday before heading back up to Shawnigan Lake and then on to Sooke.
