The CVRD says they’re planning to start a new three-stream curbside collection service next year, which will be eligible for all households.
The new curbside collection will be broken down into three categories which will include a weekly collection of organics, an alternating bi-weekly collection of garbage and recyclables, and a monthly collection of glass.
To accommodate the process, the CVRD says new collection bins will be distributed before collection starts in mid-2025.
“Curbside totes, brings and trucks are currently being manufactured and will be delivered to the CVRD in early 2025,” they say. “Residents can anticipate receiving their new curbside totes and glass bins in April and May, with their first curbside collection of the new materials beginning in June.”
Along with collection services being implemented, the district approved an annual utility fee of $345 per household which is slated to begin in 2025.
They say the new fees will help cover costs which include a one-time roll out, loan repayments, regular operating costs, and an annual contribution to capital reserves.
Residents will receive information early next year outlining all the details, including key dates, and new collection charges along with when the service will roll out.
