CVRD to play big role in future of proposed LNG facility in Bamberton

The chair of the Cowichan Valley Regional District says it’s going to have a say on a proposed LNG facility in Bamberton, because it controls zoning for the property.

Steelhead LNG is in partnership with the Malahat First Nation on the terminal and it’s working with an American company on a pipeline to supply the gas.

Jon Lefebure says the CVRD was told about the project, but there’s been no formal application.

And he says once it comes in the Board will have to look at it with an open mind.

Lefebure says, based on his experience with major projects, it could be anywhere from 5-10 years before anything happens.
