Officers and First responders investigating elementary school fire

Police and first responders are investigating an elementary school fire from Duncan.

In a release, School District 79 says they were notified of a fire in the back pod of Alexander Elementary School at 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night.

The North Cowichan Fire Department quicky arrived on scene, stopping the fire from spreading to other parts of the school. Only the pod area suffered damage from the flames.

Chair of the Board of Education for the district Cathy Schmidt says they are grateful for the firefighters help with the situation.

“We will continue to work with the fire department and the RCMP as they investigate the cause of the fire,” said Schmidt.

As of now, no cause behind the fire has been revealed, but North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP and first responders are continuing their investigation.
