Nanaimo woman faces serious charges related to the death of an 85-year-old woman

A Nanaimo woman is facing a charge of Dangerous Driving Causing Death after RCMP say she killed an 85-year-old woman.

The incident happened on Mar. 21, 2024, and police say the 85-year-old parked her vehicle beside the accused person’s truck before being struck down.

“She exited her car, and began walking towards the mall,” police say. “At the same time, the driver of the truck exited her parking stall, turned left, and struck the woman, knocking her to the ground.”

They say the charge is very serious and poses a significant danger to the public. They add there were circumstances that aided in the mishap, but the driver should’ve been paying attention.

“In this case, the modifications made to the truck, including suspension lifts, oversized tires, and tinted windows, made driving in a crowded parking lot at a busy mall unsafe,” they say. “These modifications, which were not part of the original design of the truck, contributed to the tragic outcome.”
