Avalanche conditions dangerous for Coast but moderate for Island today

While avalanche conditions are moderate for Vancouver Island, conditions are dangerous for the Sunshine Coast.

That comes from Avalanche Canada, saying the danger level is high in the alpine for the region today.

This comes as several small avalanches have been reported after recent storms, with some of the avalanches having stepped down to layers 40 to 60 centimeters deep and counting in the snowpack.

The danger level in the treeline is considerable, and moderate below the treeline. They ask you to be cautious when approaching lee and cross-loaded slopes and watch for storm slabs as they might cause large avalanches.

For the Island, they say the danger rating is moderate for the alpine, and low for both on the treeline and below the treeline.

Avalanche Canada says small avalanches were reported in a recent snowstorm on Thursday, with any new snow to stay dry as temperatures cool.

They ask you to make observations and assess conditions while traveling, and to stay alert for any changes to conditions.
