Cowichan Valley residents are being encouraged to attend a rally in support of striking transit workers.
According to a media release, the event is scheduled to run on Mar. 15 at the main bus stop at Charles Hoey Park from 11:00 to 2 p.m.
The event is to help transit workers as they fight to access pension, comparable living wages, and appropriate washroom and break facilities for operators.
According to the release, the strike has played a role in impacting low-income families who rely on public transportation, seniors and people with disabilities, and they say profits are being driven out of the community which is sacrificing the well-being of the community and workers.
“Transit workers and the community will never be the priority as long as the profits generated here are funneled out of our community by the lowest bidding company is in control,” they say.
According to the release, Transdev is based in France and receives 90 per cent of its funding from the CVRD, and BC Transit.
Transdev also holds contracts in Comox, Campbell River, the Okanagan and other places across Canada.
