Nominations for Sports Wall of Fame inductees extended

Teams and individuals who have made significant contributions to sports in the Cowichan Valley are being recognized on the Sports Wall of Fame, and those who are looking to nominate someone should do so soon.

The wall honours those in the community who have attained significant recognition either in the valley or on the world stage to sports and 2023 inductee Ernie Mansueti says being inducted on the wall is a milestone for not just the athlete, but also for the community.

“Sports have played a vital role in shaping our community,” he says. “This recognition highlights the dedication of so many individuals who have contributed to local athletics.

“If you know someone who has made a lasting impact, now is the time to put their name forward.”

North Cowichan mayor Rob Douglas says recognizing residents who have played a pivotal role takes place every two years and the community should celebrate those who have stood out and put their best foot forward.

“This is your chance to recognize the athletes, teams, coaches, and builders who have left a mark on local sports,” he says. “I look forward to celebrating their achievements together at our inductee ceremony this fall.”

This year’s ceremonies will be in November, and categories for nomination include athlete, team, coach and administrator/builder.

The Sports Wall of Fame is located at the Cowichan Aquatic Centre and is administered by the Sports Wall of Fame Committee.
