An alpine skier from Vancouver Island is bringing home a bronze medal from the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Italy last week.
Ron Greenhorn from Nanaimo won bronze in the Intermediate Giant Slalom. He also placed fourth in the Intermediate Slalom, and seventh in the Intermediate Super G.
Greenhorn is 40 years old, and started skiing when he was 12. He says participating in Special Olympics has changed his life for the better, helping him learn how to speak with people at work and improve his relationships.
He was the only athlete from Vancouver Island to compete.
Team Canada took 90 athletes to the games, which were held in Turin, Italy from March 8-15. They brought home 116 medals, including 39 gold, 35 silver, and 42 bronze.
