Federal Conservative leader visits Vancouver Island on brief tour

Federal Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre was on a whirlwind tour of Vancouver Island today, stopping in several communities to support his Island candidates.

His first stop was at a Western Forest Products mill in Nanaimo. He talked about drugs and crime, promising to bring in life sentences for fentanyl traffickers.

He also took aim at US President Donald Trump, stating that tariffs hurt both nations and that true free trade will allow both economies to grow. He also said the Liberal government’s neglect of Canadian industry over the last decade forced Canada to become more reliant on the USA.

He then stopped in Parksville for a brief visit and photo op with supporters, finishing up with a similar stop in Campbell River at the Maritime Heritage Centre.
