MLAs open a new sitting in Victoria… with ministerial accountability in the opposition’s sights

MLAs are back in Victoria, and the opposition is predicting some fireworks over recent issues at the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

The NDP is calling for the resignation of Minister Stephanie Cadieux after the death of a teen in government care, who was living in a hotel.

Nanaimo North Cowichan MLA Doug Routley is the NDP critic on privacy issues. He says problems in the Education Ministry, like losing a hard drive with student’s personal information, are at the top of his list, and the NDP wants accountability from the minister in charge of that file as well.

Proposed changes the Southern Gulf Islands ferry service have also been a hot topic over the summer. Claire Trevena is the NDP Ferries Critic, and she says that, and other Ferries concerns, will also get an airing during the sitting.

Other regional issues likely to hit the floor at the Legislature include the Shawnigan Lake soil dump, and the Malahat LNG project.
