A 17-year-old pedestrian has died in hospital after being struck on the Trans-Canada Highway at Trunk Road.
North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP responded to a motor vehicle incident around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 6 which involved a pedestrian.
The teenager was struck by a semi-truck travelling southbound, according to early evidence gathered.
They were taken to hospital but succumbed to their injuries.
Spokesperson for the BC RCMP Cpl. Alex Bérubé said criminality is not believed to be a factor in the incident.
“Part of the investigation will be to determine the actions of the pedestrian and the semi-truck prior to the collision.”
A traffic reconstructionist attended the scene for a comprehensive examination to collect evidence to help advance the investigation.
