Projects focused on plastic recycling will be getting financial support from the BC Government.
Over $8 million will be invested to 34 projects run by businesses, foundations, and First Nations this year, with the money to be used to build creative and effective ways to repair, reuse, and recycle plastics.
The aim is to both lower waste and bring more jobs to communities.
The province says the projects include expanding the use of reusable cups at large events, textile and medical-supply recycling, installing industrial dishwashers, zero-waste cleaning supplies, and construction-waste sorting services.
Of the 34 projects chosen, 3 come from Vancouver Island.
Nanaimo’s Deconstructors is getting $495,000, while Campbell River’s Brown’s Bay Packaging is getting $796,165, and Port Alberni’s Alberni Valley Makerspace Society is getting $190,000.
