Minimum-wage workers in BC will get a bump in pay starting this Sunday.

BC’s minimum wage will go up from $17.40 to $17.85, a 2.6 percent increase, or an extra 45 cents for resident caretakers, live-in home support workers, live-in camp leaders, and app-based delivery and ride-hail services workers.

The province says the wage increases are to help bring certainty to workers and predictability to businesses, with this year marking their fourth in a row matching these increases to inflation.

For hand harvesters, that wage increase will come at the end of this year as part of their December 31 annual increase. This is done to make sure crop producers don’t need to adjust wages in the middle of harvesting season.

Change starts June 1.
