Foul play suspected in death of Salt Spring Island man

The death of a 45-year-old Salt Spring Island man is now being treated as a suspected homicide.

Police say the body of Joseph Patrick Bernie was discovered in Fulford Creek on October 10th, however, the cause of death and any other details are not being released because the investigation is ongoing.

They say investigators think foul play was involved based on findings from the BC Coroners Service and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit.

Police say they have found no evidence to suggest the public’s safety may be at risk. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Salt Spring RCMP or Crimestoppers.
